Why text stories keep working

A chat story is easy to follow with the sound off, it creates a question in the first two seconds ("why is Mom texting a skull emoji?"), and people watch to the end to see the punchline. That makes the format good for watch time and replays, which short-video algorithms reward. It also needs no face, no voice and no filming.

The hard part is volume. Posting daily means dozens of chats a month, and a slow or expensive tool becomes the bottleneck. That is the problem TextingReel is built to remove.

The daily workflow

1. Write a week of chats in one file

   Use a plain text file with one message per line as Name: message and a blank line between chats. The speaker called Me is you, and the other name becomes the contact.

2. Batch import

   In the render queue, click Batch import and choose the file. TextingReel shows how many chats it found and flags any problems before rendering.

3. Render them all

   Each chat becomes its own MP4 in the style, speed and format you picked, plus a cue sheet of its pauses. Keep editing while the queue works.

4. Finish in your editor

   Add a hook caption, trending audio or a voiceover in CapCut or your editor of choice, then schedule the posts.

Plan a month of posts in an afternoon

1. Pick three recurring characters, for example a tech-confused dad, a chaotic roommate and a passive-aggressive landlord. Give each a fixed style.
2. Write 10 chats per character in one sitting. Scripts are short, so this takes about an hour.
3. Batch-render all 30 while you do something else. Each video lands in the output folder with its title as the file name.
4. Schedule one or two a day across TikTok, Reels and Shorts. The same MP4 works on all three.

Tips that make text stories perform

• Open on the conflict. The first message should raise a question. "Who did you give my pizza to?" beats "hey".
• Keep messages short. Real people text in fragments. Two short bubbles read faster than one long one.
• Pause on the punchline. Add a 1.5 to 2.5 second pause after the reveal so viewers can react, and so you have room for a reaction clip.
• Use big emoji as beats. A lone 💀 or 😐 message lands harder than words.
• Stay in the 30 to 60 second range. Split longer stories into parts and end each on a cliffhanger.
• Vary the style per series. One style per recurring character (say, Social DM for "the ex") helps returning viewers recognise the series.
